What style do you feel you identify
the most with? Why?
Soleá. Because it seems like I'm telling my life,
my grief, my joy. I think people understand what's happening
in my life in my baile.
You've accompanied your son Farruquito
in some of his most successful shows. What do you feel working
alongside him as a mother and as an artist?
I already said it; respect, fear, joy and grief.

La Farruca (Frame from DVD 'Bodas
de Gloria')
One curiosity. You designed and made the wardrobe
for ‘Alma vieja’ (‘Old Soul’). Where
does that facet of yours come from? How do you design the
models?
It's that simple: it comes to me. I'm living it. You just
have to talk to me about the baile: if it's got something
to do with grief, joy... And it comes to my mind.
Your son Farruco
and your nephew Barullo
are coming on strong. What qualities do you see in them for
them to become successful bailaores?
As a mother, all of them. But love doesn't blind you to knowledge.
They still have to draw on a lot of things; both the good
and the bad.
On occasion, the youngest of your children has been
seen dancing. How do you explain that attitude towards serious
baile in such a young boy?
I'm just going to tell you this and that's the way I want
you to write it. I'm saying it to you as a verdict, besides.
There's ten minutes left until flamenco's greatest, who are
his brothers, hang up their shoes.
He carries Farruco's deep roots. Farruco has twelve grandchildren
and the only one with a birthmark on his back in the shape
of a hat is called Manuel el Carpetilla.

What role do you think your children will play in
the future of baile?
The future's already decided. They'll make history.
How do you view today's baile and flamenco scene?
Do you fear for tradition?
Yes, I do. There's very little, though it seems that people
have really been doing their utmost in flamenco for some time
now. I see it in the courses by La
Faraona, Farruquito and my own. The students seek more
in the pure; there's a greater desire for knowledge. But everything's
really doctored-up; we don't remember the roots.
What are your upcoming professional projects?
‘Gypsy Women and …
For the time being, she doesn't want to reveal any more.
The development of this new show is going to be combined with
the ‘Farruquito and Family’ Tour in November in
Argentina, Peru, Venezuela, Ecuador and Paris. Next year,
they are to tour France, Holland, Belgium, Mexico, Japan...
She's also on tour with the show ‘The Farrucos’.
She will perform in Granada on December 10th, in Nîmes
on January 7th and 8th and in Jerez on March 8th. La Farruca
is back.
