| ‘Por la ribera del tiempo’
(jaleos) |
|
These jaleos reflect the bank
(of the Guadalquivir River, along its course through
Córdoba), which I lived so nearby to and
where I crossed for so many years in my comings
and goings to the Conservatory of Córdoba.
The entire group takes part in it and when composing
it, I basically went with the flow of inspiration. |

| ‘El Pozanco’ (tangos) |
|
Here I resume songs from the
tangos I did on ‘La Leyenda’ and which
were never performed live, except in playback for
the Compañía Andaluza de Danza (Andalusian
Dance Company) or the Ballet Nacional de España
(Spanish National Ballet). There are different climates
and sensations on the track; the percussions and
sax have a lot to do with it. |
| ‘A Cobitos’ (taranta) |
|
Taranta dedicated to Manuel Celestino
Cobos, who I didn’t meet personally, but I
did get to know her cantes through Luis de Córdoba.
She used to sing ‘Te llaman la Totanera’,
a lovely taranta which I’ve never forgotten.
I wanted to display something a little like that
precious-style song on this track. |
| ‘Paisaje’ |
|
It has two really different parts.
The first one, evoking the fragrance of Córdoba
in May; and the second one, the festive side this
month brings to my city. |

| ‘Alquimia’ (bulería
por soleá) |
|
It starts off with a prelude,
here I add music to an excerpt from the poem ‘Calle
vacía’ by my admired, extraordinary
poet Félix Grande. It then follows the beat,
with a traditional falseta structure, concluding
with soleá apolá lyrics and baile. |
| ‘La Farga’ (rumba) |
|
It’s a concert-finishing
rumba with three defined moments. The introduction
pays tribute to John McLaughlin. The display and
development of the song and the ending have wheels
of improvisation and a main motif joining those
wheels. |

“I want to stress the modern, extraordinary work in
the making of the DVD, the quality in the recording and
the painstaking, daring presentation of the design. It’s
one of those jobs you’re satisfied with and want to
share”
‘Guad el Kebir’
“This song is the common thread
of the concert, both in the harmony and in the more poetic
part … The river marks the tempo and the spirit
of this concert”.
‘Manhattan de la Frontera’
“It was the encore of the concert
and it’s an adaptation of this song, which has given
me so much satisfaction, for this musical group. Here,
besides the composing, we can appreciate my passion for
the accompaniment on cante and the extraordinary baile
of Rafael
de Utrera and Rosario Toledo”.
