VICENTE
AMIGO, OR THE FLAMENCO GUITARIST IN THE 21st CENTURY
Discography
of an artist somewhere between poetry and marketing.

Vicente
Amigo is the guitarist in the eye of the hurricane in the new decade. He seems
destined to succeed Paco de Lucía in the slow and steady innovation that
characterizes modern flamenco guitar. Although he is less of a technician he has
managed to craft a very personal sound. His sense of syncopation is amazing, bearing
in mind the complicated nature of many flamenco rhythms. Only a very special understanding
of flamenco styles and a keen sense of rhythm can explain the air or swing of
this young man from Córdoba. These qualities are present even in his flexibility
on-stage.

Background
When
Vicente Amigo traveled to Sanlúcar de Barrameda in 1982 to learn from Manuel
Muñoz Alcón, he was one of the most talented students of the Córdoba
guitar academies, such as that of Merengue de Córdoba. Appearing sporadically
in anthologies of Córdoba singers, he began his professional recording
career as the third guitarist for the group of his mentor, Manolo Sanlúcar.
During this period he grew and matured, participating in contests and collaborating
on several recordings, and he was also greatly influenced by Sánlucar’s
brother Isidro, as well as Paco de Lucía.
