PASCUAL DE LORCA
José Pascual Ruiz was born in Lorca, Murcia in 1961, which
was where he became interested in music, choosing guitar as his instrument. He
began studying with the maestro "Palmita". Shortly afterwards he went
to Jerez de la Frontera and studied with maestros José Luis Balao and Manuel
Lozano "El Carbonero". In 1993 he won first prize for Flamenco Guitar
at the Festival del Cante de la Minas de la Unión.
The following year (1994) he was awarded the "Diego Gómez"
prize for cante accompaniment in Sanlúcar de Barrameda, and that same year,
second prize at Nimes. This catapulted his career and consolidated him as a guitarist,
and he began composing for ballets and companies such as Fernando Belmonte's Ballet
Albarizuela with which he toured Europe and Asia on several occasions, and Manuel
Morao's company with which he participated in important runs in Madrid and Paris
accompanying and composing for dancers such as Joaquín Grilo and Domingo
Ortega.
Thanks to his great respect for the cante and his way of accompanying,
he has been sought after by great stars of flamenco singing such as Chano Lobato,
Juan Villar, Rancapino, Mariana Cornejo, Melchora Ortega, Elu de Jerez...
The Festival de Jerez invited him to accompany dance classes to
be given by the maestros Manolo Marín and Manolete. He has developed an
important career as guitar teacher, a pursuit which he combines with performing.
He is currently official guitarist for Antonio El Pipa's company
and composer, along with José Luis Montón and Juan Moneo of the
works "Vivencias", "De la Tierra", "Generaciones",
"Trilogía" and "De Cai, el baile".
