A video that explains every single guitar technique for people who already have some basic knowledge and wish to take up flamenco. In three Episodes Oscar Herrero reveals the Flamenco Guitar secrets and techniques.

§ In this first episode of 68 minutes, Oscar Herrero, after playing the "bulería" , called "De colores" accompanied by one percussionist, reveals the secrets of:

  • The sitting position and the way to hold the guitar, hand positioning, the thumb technique and thumb-index, "rasgueos" with simple percussions, "rasgueos" with "golpe", "rasgueos" with thumb, "rasgueos" without thumb, Flamenco Tangos, "picado", "picado falseta" for Tangos and "Soleas" time.

  • Each toque is first played at normal speed and then explained step by step and in full detail. Played exercises can be followed in a booklet with music scores and tablatures.

    § Each toque is first played at normal speed and then explained step by step and in full detail. Played exercises can be followed in a booklet with music scores and tablatures.

    § The Scores Booklet included in each episode, contains the music scores and tablatures of the exercises and examples featured on the video tape, as well as those for the music themes.

    Flamenco Glossary

    § Alzapúa: TPlaying several strings, downwards and upwards alternately, with the thumb.

    § Apagar : Dampen the strings, usually with the left hand.

    § Apoyando : Rest strokes.

    § Sin apoyar : Free strokes.

    § A contratiempo :Off beat.

    § Capirote: Golpe-rasgueo. To hit with the index finger both the sound board and the lower strings at the same time.

    § Compás :Usually meaning time, and also bar, measure. The flamenco compás is often composed of two different times, (eg. six-eight and three -four ), played along four bars.

    § Falseta :Solo played between rhythm parts.

    § Free strokes : To play ending the movement of the finger/s in the air.

    § Golpe : Tap on the soundboard.

    § Golpeador :Tap plate.

    § Palo : : Every different flamenco style (soleá, alegrías, tangos, bulerías, taranta…)

    § Picado : Technique of playing scales with the index and middle fingers alternately.

    § Rasgueo o rasgueado:Percussions on several strings, made by the fingers of the right hand in different combinations.

    § Rest strokes: To play resting the thumb or finger on the adjacent string.

    § Toque : Action of playing. Flamenco piece.

    § Trémolo : Technique consisting of a bass line played by the thumb, and three or four notes played on a single string with the index, middle and ring fingers.
