Postmodern tablaos
Another setting in which today's flamenco evolves is the
tablao. It isn't as strong as in past decades, but it continues
to be a practical training school for new baile talents. Madrid
has active clubs such as Casa Patas, El Corral de la Morería,
Café de Chinitas, Torres Bermejas and Las Carboneras,
where bailaores like Miguel Téllez, Mari Paz Lucena,
La Truco, Belén Fernández, Belén López,
Alfonso Losa, David Paniagua, Isaac and Nino de los Reyes
stand out... A curious case was that of Paco Mora, who during
his stay at Casa Patas brought out his first show, ‘Lorca
baila’ (‘Lorca Dances’). And from there
to a solo career including a collaboration with Carlos Saura
in the film ‘Salomé’
and direction of the inaugural show for the Málaga
in Flamenco Festival, among other projects. There are also
tablaos in Seville and Barcelona which serve as showcases
for new talents. For example, El Junco and Soraya
Clavijo are currently on the bill of Los Gallos. And modern
bailaores have appeared at El Cordobés, like Israel
Galván and Ana Salazar, among others.
