Close attention must be paid to the dance corps of the already
consolidated companies, since they take in many of the future
top figures. Ángel
Muñoz, for several seasons María Pagés'
lead bailaor, now puts on solo shows such as ‘Robándole
al alma’ (‘Stealing from the Soul’). Already
coming out of the same company to go solo is a very young
bailaora, Málaga-born Rocío Molina, who made
a very successful début at Flamenco Festival USA 2004.
A great many good bailaores have come out of the Andalusian
Dance Company dance corps. Standing out is Úrsula López,
currently the lead dancer of the Spanish National Ballet,
a regular guest of Andrés Marín and on the way
to going solo. A similar career is that of her colleague Elena
Algado, who she shares the splitting of Carmen Amaya with
in the show ‘La leyenda’ (‘The Legend’).
Antonio Canales' company has been a prolific breeding ground,
especially for male bailaores. Juan
de Juan is the main find, though also excelling are Pol
Vaquero, David Paniagua and Ana Salazar, both in the facet
of baile and cante. Cristina Hoyos has waved her magic wand
over El Junco, making him the star of her private company's
shows as well as those of the Andalusia Flamenco Ballet which
she now directs. Javier Latorre's company, with shows of a
local Spanish motif like ‘Rinconete y Cortadillo’
and ‘Triana’, has or has had in his group of bailaores
artists with outlooks of the likes of Fuensanta
la Moneta, Daniel Navarro, Rosario Toledo, Adela Campallo,
Daniel Doña... Some of these bailaores of the future
have even joined forces to go solo after training in companies,
tablaos and leading schools, as is the case of Marco Flores
and Manuel Liñán, who are now presenting the
co-production ‘Dos en compañía’
(‘Two's Company’).
