Today's flamenco dancing. Special feature
Crossroads of trends
Silvia Calado, August 2005
Flamenco dancing is throbbing. The coexistence of
several generations of bailaores offers a farsighted picture
of the evolution of the jondo art's most visual facet. It
is still possible to catch a glimpse of Matilde Coral's vintage
baile on some stage or other, while Joaquín Cortés
makes it big worldwide, while Israel Galván experiments
and while a very young Pastora Galván takes her first
steps professionally. Generations coexist, but so do trends,
influences, experiences, goals... The family photo comes out
eclectic, but undoubtedly flamenco and alive.
