Bienal de Flamenco de Sevilla 2012 will be held from September 7th to October 6th with the slogan ‘De cuerpo y alma’ (‘With Body and Soul’)

The budget cut has made itself felt at Bienal de Flamenco de Sevilla 2010. The 18% decrease in the cost of the Sevillian festival, down to 2,351,818 euros, has brought about a slight descent in the figures of the official results. The occupation index dropped 5% from the 2008 edition, down to 90%, with a total of 46,379 tickets sold. The number of shows which sold out also decreased slightly, from 39 in the previous festival to 36 in the one this year. Paco de Lucía, Estrella Morente, Andrés Marín, Rubén Olmo, Farruquito, Yerbabuena and Isabel Bayón were some of the artists who managed to hang up the “sold out” signs at their performances.

In total, Seville’s Bienal de Flamenco 2010 scheduled 56 shows, seen in 66 performances over a period of twenty-five days. 57,501 tickets came out on sale, with a total of 899,129 euros managing to be collected at the box office. In the previous edition, 53,458 tickets came out and 46,379 were sold in total, with box office receipts of 925,000 euros. There were 32 days of activity then, with 55 shows scheduled and 70 performances on the bill.

Regarding the program, the official results highlight the success of the children’s series at the Teatro Alameda. Between schoolchildren and the general public, over two thousand people attended the flamenco shows for children ‘Flamenco School Musical’ and ‘Flamenco Kids’. They also stress the increase in related activities, with 150 in total, especially in training and disclosure; and the Off-Bienal which complemented the offer of shows and activities at different private venues in the city such as the Sala Joaquín Turina, the Sala El Cachorro and the Teatro Quintero.

According to the surveys carried out right outside of theaters, the average of audiences’ degree of satisfaction with the shows is 8.94 on a scale of 1 to 10. Said polls also point out that the number of visitors from outside of Seville increased ten percent, with 35% coming from countries outside of Spain. A total of 11,300 people from 40 different countries traveled to the city of Seville on the occasion of the Bienal, according to the official data. The top ten include several European countries, the United States, Japan and Australia.
