Carmen
Amaya's flame burns on. The sound and audiovisual legacy of the legendary
Barcelona-born bailaora is more and more accessible to enthusiasts and admirers.
On the occasion of the fortieth anniversary of her death, the special pack 'La
reina del embrujo gitano' ('The Queen of Gypsy Bewitchment') comes out, containing
a DVD with a selection of archive pictures from the '30s and '40s impossible to
find until now, and a photo album; two records with nearly thirty cantes she herself
performed; and the book 'El mar me enseñó a bailar' ('The Sea Taught
Me How to Dance'), a journey through the life and work of the also nicknamed "La
Capitana" ("The Captain"), published in Spanish, English and French.
At the same time, re-released on DVD is the film 'Los Tarantos', directed by Rovira
Beleta, the last will and testament in pictures of the top flamenco dancing figure.
