The dance of a universal ‘cordobés’

Joaquín Cortés succeeded in his encounter with the Festival de la Guitarra de Córdoba 2011. The Córdoba-born dancer presented his last production 'Calé' at the Teatro de la Axerquía on Thursday July 14th. Sixteen years after his last performance on this cultural forum, the most prestigious of the city. Back then, he brought that 'Gypsy Passion' with which he toured internationally. Now, a retrospective show which travels through his twenty years of profesional career. In front of two thousand and five hundred people, the artist claimed acknowledgement, not only his work but also of his status as “cordobés universal”. With his performance, the flamenco section of the thirty-first edition of this Córdoba’s festival, which were also billed with artists such as Vicente Amigo, Javier Barón, Rocío Molina and Serranito, took finish. Flamenco was also central sustain of the tuition area, with maestros as Manolo Sanlúcar, Antonio el Pipa and Arcángel, among others. But flamenco was not the only genre in the lineup, international artists like John McLaughlin, Andrés Calamaro, Pablo Milanés and ZZ Top, among others, participated in this event that has guitar, in all its forms, as leitmotiv.
