“We’re not giving
out awards or special mentions; we’re here to celebrate
one another, to celebrate the continuity of a project
which wouldn’t be possible without our team, without
you artists, managers, producers, promoters, craftsmen,
venues... without flamenco”. With these words Daniel
Muñoz and Lydia Nieto, the founding partners of
Flamenco-world.com,
illustrated the ceremony with which the website - the
pioneer and leader of flamenco on the Internet - commemorated
its first decade of life.

The event was at Tablao
Las Carboneras on the night of November 29th, 2007,
with guests as illustrious as Carmen
Linares, María
Pagés, Jorge
Pardo, Niña
Pastori, Chaboli,
Tomasito,
Toni
el Pelao, La
Uchi and Nacho
Arimany, among many others. But the star of the evening
was Cádiz-born cantaora Encarna Anillo who, accompanied
on guitar by Juan Diego, provided a sneak preview of what
will be her first solo album, ‘Barcas de plata’,
which the label Flamenco World Music will premiere with.

The party was, at the same time, an initial
presentation of this new project by Flamenco-world.com,
which is born with the aim “to give the first record
opportunity to many flamenco artists who are young, but
who still haven’t been able to capture their work”,
Muñoz and Nieto explain. And that’s the case
of Encarna Anillo, but also of guitarist Jesús
Torres and Jerez-born cantaor David
Lagos. The three of them will take part in a triple
recital premiering Flamenco World Music scheduled for
Tuesday, February 26th, 2008 at Festival de Jerez.

The event was enhanced by Encarna
Anillo’s cante and Juan
Diego’s toque. Together, they decked out the
celebration with a recital in which feeling and exquisite
taste were the prevailing notes. It was already foretold
by the prologue: the wonderful score ‘Musgo’,
which the Jerez-born musician played alone on his guitar
and with huge rests. Then came cante. Alegrías
and bulerías framed the concert, two bright cantes
in which she was bursting with energy and flavor, besides
mastery of the stage more characteristic of veterans.
And in the middle came the rests, chills,
feelings... por malagueñas, por soleá, por
milonga. The crowd welcomed it with respectful silence
and very warm applause. The cantaora, following her vibrant
bulería - which she seasoned with a pinch of artful
baile, now with no need for heels and mikes -, wanted
those wishing to share their art to join her. But then
maestra Carmen Linares, who the performance was dedicated
to, intervened to say with her immense elegance “nobody’s
going to perform after you tonight; today you’re
the star”. And her sparkle lingered there at the
lovely tablao... and forever in the hearts of those who
for ten years have made possible the existence of Flamenco-world.com,
the flamenco website.
