September 4th, David Lagos

Torres (guitar). September 6th, Encarna
Anillo (cante) with Juan Requena (guitar) and
Javier Katumba (box drum). Seville’s Fnac Forum
Flamenco has taken over the Fnac Forum
in Seville for three days. The artists inaugurating the
record label Flamenco World Music have taken advantage
of the proximity of the cultural venue to give away to
the public three sips of the albums they are making their
début with.
The series was opened on Thursday, September
4th by Jerez-born cantaor David Lagos who, accompanied
on guitar by Alfredo Lagos, offered a preview of what
will be his first solo album, ‘El espejo en que
me miro’. He took a personal tribute to Antonio
el Sevillano off the album, which will be released this
fall, to which he added personal creations por alegrías
and por bulerías which he shook up the audience
with.
Jesús Torres took over on the
second evening. The Ecijan guitarist just required his
instrument to distill the essence of three of the songs
from his album ‘Viento del Norte’. The cross
between tangos and taranto ‘Tarantango’ as
well as the fantasy which is the album’s title cut
were part of that carefully-chosen repertoire that delighted
the jam-packed venue.
And the triple showcase was closed by
Cádiz-born cantaora Encarna Anillo, presenting
her début album ‘Barcas de plata’.
It was precisely with the alegrías entitling the
disc that she began her performance, with Juan Requena
- the song’s author - accompanying her on toque.
She continued her concert with the milonga ‘Si llegara
a suceder’, finishing it with a mix of the three
bulerías on the album, which has been produced
by Miguel Poveda. And following the last quejío,
she remained there signing discs for those already captivated
by her cante..
