Following generation
The pioneer movements of new flamenco are already three or
four decades old, and therefore have children... and even
grandchildren. Direct heirs of Smash and Veneno are the Jerez
group Los
Delinqüentes. They coined the term ‘garrapatero’
to define their music, which has drawn on flamenco and street
rock. Triana leaves its indelible mark on the group ElBicho,
which with an extroverted vocalist, also likes arranging typical
Spanish coplas with retro metals. But there are also traditionalists.
Amidst so many experiments looking outwards, quite curious
is the act of Son de la Frontera, who recover the legacy of
Diego del Gastor and combine it with popular Cuban music.
There will be more offers to renew new flamenco... it's only
a matter of time. The album ‘Fragua
futura’ by Nuevos Medios, the record company that
presented most of the groups of this trend, provides a few
clues. Keep an eye out for Kímica, who is a recommendation
by none other than Pepe Habichuela.
