Flamenco bailaor Ángel Muñoz premieres in Jerez a journey throughout his career with Cañizares as guest

The Córdoba-born bailaor is accompanied by Nanda Khumar, Charo Espino and Paco Arriaga

S.C. Madrid, January 2006

Ángel Muñoz takes off. After years of dancing as a guest and lead bailaor of companies such as those of María Pagés, Paco Peña and Serranito, he reinforces his solo career. At the Festival de Jerez 2006, he premieres an up-close-and-personal show with Cañizares as guest artist. The Córdoba-born bailaor is trying to make his constant intention of “endowing my work with flamenco dancing throughout my artist career with meaning” materialize. The farruca and the soleá through bulerías are some of the styles the artist will perform on Saturday, February 25th at midnight at Sala La Compañía, accompanied by musicians such as percussionist Nanda Khumar, guitarist Paco Arriaga and bailaora Charo Espino on rhythm.

Taking advantage of the coziness of Sala La Compañía, Ángel Muñoz is going to present a journey throughout his career from the early days, in which he simply finds himself with the rhythms and the rests, a part in which he will be accompanied by percussionist Nanda Khumar. Next, he will dance a farruca, recalling that moment when he was still a boy in which his first maestra, Inmaculada Luque, showed him a video of a farruca performed by El Güito. “It made an impact on me; I didn't dance for several days, just absorbing the style, movements, lines”.

Next, together with guitarist Paco Arriaga, he performs the soleá through bulerías, the style in which he synthesizes his entire artistic work: “I want to be myself within orthodox flamenco, but without giving up my times”. From that moment forward, coming out on stage is Cañizares, “who represents that dream I've had since I started off of sharing my baile with the artists I've always admired”. He'll contribute his way of feeling baile to a selection of compositions from the repertoire of the guitar maestro, who he has already worked with on several occasions.

Ángel Muñoz reaches Jerez following an intense tour around the United States as the lead primer bailaor of guitarist Paco Peña from January 27th to February 1st, 2006. He picks that collaboration back up with a tour of England March 3rd to 15th, a spell in London April 21st to May 14th, and tours Bulgaria May 15th to 18th. At the same time, the Córdoba-born bailaor is preparing his upcoming show, ‘Angel’.
