With the intention of emphasizing the everlasting
current importance of toque jerezano, Alain Faucher transfers to the musical staff
several of the most paradigmatic compositions by Paco
Cepero. From the guitarist and composer born in Jerez de la Frontera in 1942,
he takes six creations included on two albums: 'Amuleto' (1977) and 'De pura cepa'
(2000).

The transcriber points out that, despite the
twenty-three-year gap, "we shall find a great continuity, a perfect unity
where only the appearance of the tanguillo indicates a change in era". Specifically,
the transcribed songs, in tablature and standard notation, are 'Sueños
en Jerez', 'Castillo de Alcalá', 'Amuleto', 'De pura cepa', 'Me gusta la
noche' and 'Agua marina', bulerías, rumbas, tanguillos and soleá,
a repertoire of "party toque", in which some extra-flamenco borrowings
can be made out, such as 'Guitar tango' by Maine and Liferman; and "a discreet
tribute to Sabicas".
The volume dedicated to the guitarist, which
he recorded with, among others, Manolo Caracol, Camarón and El Lebrijano,
comes fit with an introduction in Spanish, English and French in which, besides
a prologue of the musician's profile, the transcriber sets forth the specifications
on technique, execution and writing.
Belonging to the same collection are the transcriptions
'Arte clásico flamenco' by Ramón Montoya, 'Morao y oro' by Moraíto,
'Esencias' by Pepe Habichuela, 'El arte de Gerardo Núñez', 'La guitarra
de Tomatito', 'Sabicas Rey del flamenco', 'El
genio de Niño Ricardo' and 'Inspiración flamenca' by Serranito.
