In the bibliography section, the TOP 10 clearly leans towards sheet music books. And specifically, of guitar. This year, the most successful ones were ‘Campo de la verdad’ (1) by Vicente Amigo, corresponding to his latest album ‘Un momento en el sonido’; and ‘Paseo de los castaños’ (2) by Tomatito, which transcribes the album of the same name by the Almería-born artist in two volumes. Enthusiasts continue to delve into the work of Paco de Lucía, who holds the next two positions in this sales ranking with the study ‘Paco de Lucía tocando a Camarón’ (3) and the official sheet music of his mythical album from 1976 ‘Almoraima’ (4). Also successful with guitar students were the two books (with a CD) entitled ‘Falsetas collection’ (5), which includes these sorts of brief pieces in every style and by a varied selection of tocaores.

Reading books, apparently more and more of a pending matter among aficionados, are far away, statistically speaking. Even so, the most representative ones of the year were the commemorative book ‘Carmen/Gades. Veinticinco años’ (6), with a great many texts and photographs; the biography ‘Manolo Caracol. Cante y pasión’ (7), written by Catalina León about one of the most relevant cante figures; the recovered poetry collection by Manuel Machado, ‘Cante hondo’ (8); ‘La voz de los flamencos’ (9) by journalist Miguel Mora, who joined the catalogue in the final stretch of the year; and a new edition, this time a facsimile, of the recurrent collection ‘Cantes flamencos’ (10) by Antonio Machado y Álvarez ‘Demófilo’. Cheers to reading, for there is still a great deal to learn about the past of this artform. These recommendations to start off the year are well worthwhile: ‘La Argentina vista por José Clará’ and ‘Escenas andaluzas’ by Serafín Estébanez Calderón. Which can be read while still listening to... flamenco.
