During 1979, he retired from the musical circuits, coming back as just "Camarón " with new concepts.

In 1980, he released "La leyenda del tiempo", a key album in the evolution of Camarón. Produced by Ricardo Pachón and Flamenco Vivo and distributed by Philips-España, it brings him closer to rock, jazz and oriental traditions. He works in association with Kiko Veneno and Raimundo Amador, two musicians who had gained recognition with "Veneno". There is a popular lyric: "La Tarara", as well as five adaptations from Lorca.

ĦAy qué trabajo me cuesta
el quererte como te quiero!
Por tu amor me duele el aire,
el corazón y el sombrero.
Lorca.

There are new instruments that had never been included previously in any flamenco singer album: bass, drums, percussion, Fender piano, moog and other keyboards, electric guitar, flute and zither.
In 13 years, 5.842 copies of "La leyenda del tiempo" were sold.

Soon after he begins working with a new guitar player: Tomatito (with whom he works until the last of his days).
