"HE SINGS BETTER EVERYDAY"
5th Chapter of:
CAMARON DE LA ISLA: COMPLETE RECORDINGS.
by JOSE MANUEL GAMBOA RODRIGUEZ
"Soy caminante" was his album released
in 1974. The picture on the front jacket cover is the same one used in the previous
album, but with another shade and design. "Camarón de la Isla" appears
in larger type than Paco de Lucía, whose "special collaboration" is reduced
to "collaboration". Ramón de Algeciras continues to play second guitar.
Antonio Sánchez still appears as the author in the credits.
It was the "boom" period
of "Las Grecas", and some of their styles can be heard here, mostly in the "bulerías"
-"Me dieron una ocasión" is memorable- and the tangos where Camarón
uses his voice brilliantly. In the "tientos" he chooses from the Cádiz
source and he decorates them with "camaronerias", the same ones he sticks into
the "seguiriyas" of José de Paula and Paco Ia Luz. The "alegrías",
with airs of Pinini, seem a bit spiritless because of the insistent rhythm imposed
by the hand- clapping. In the "soleares" of Cádiz, both Camarón
and Paco are superb. The work is completed with the standard "tarantos", fandangos
of "El Camas" and other of Lucena.
In christmas Polygram launched
two singles of christmas carols interpreted by Camarón: "La Virgen María"
and "A Belén Pastores".
