What is Escobilla?
Escobilla is the bailaor's footwork solo, generally in palos such as soleá
and alegrías. Just as with the cries of 'ay' in cante and falsetas on guitar,
the dancer demonstrates his skill in the escobilla.
Elisabetta, Italy
The escobilla, on guitar, can be defined as a falseta that's used to accompany
baile in styles like alegrías and soleá, and which is performed
either solo on guitar, or accompanied by other instruments. Together with the
use of the 'silencio' sequence in a minor key, it constitutes one of the most
characteristic parts of the 'bailes de Cádiz'.
