Siento (1997)
Ginesa is a young singer that understands and enjoys the new flamenco tendencies but in “Siento”, her first solo record, she has decided to sing flamenco in the traditional way, there is no place for experimentalism in this record, although she loves Morente’s work and she has been part of modern theater companies and has been the singer in jazz-fusion band, the nine songs included in this record are devoted to the melodies and rhythms of the traditional palos.

Born in France, 1967, into a family of gypsy heritage, Ginesa Ortega now makes her home in Barcelona. Since she started singing at age 12, she has immersed herself in the world of Flamenco. Ms. Ortega has performed in some of the most prestigious festivals, has given numerous recitals and has attained many awards. Her interest in jazz led to an association with Joan Albert Amargós and “Iberia”, ( with Carles Benavent ) pionners of “Flamenco-fusion” in Spain, with them she has performed in jazz festivals in France, Germany and Denmark, with renowned artists such as Chick Corea and John McLaughlin.

In 1990 Ms. Ortega took part in the recording of the original 1915 version of Manuel de Falla ‘El amor brujo’ with the Orchestra del “Teatre Lliure”, directed by Josep Pons. With the success of ‘El amor brujo’ Ms. Ortega was engaged to tour the piece around the world.
She also collaborated with the Orquestra del Teatre Lliure three years later on a recording of the “Canciones populares antiguas” of Federico Garcia Lorca.

She has worked in Barcelona with the music section of the Theater company “La Fura dels Baus” accompanying them on a European tour, their recording “Noun”, a joint collaboration, won several awards such as the “Crítica Teatral” as well as the “Ciutat de Barcelona”.

All the guitars of “Siento” have been performed by Juan Gómez, ”Chicuelo”, a guitarist that has taken part in a variety of recording projects with Mayte Martin and Duquende.
