Flamenco-world.com’s 2008 Flamenco Photo Yearbook summarizes the highlights of the year in flamenco through nearly fifty photographs by Daniel Muñoz. Mario Maya passed away, veterans like Chano Lobato and Manolo Sanlúcar were honored, new voices from Cádiz made their début such as those of Encarna Anillo and David Palomar, Jesús Torres’s music finally materialized, Javier Barón won the top dance award, baile was reinvented according to Israel Galván and Rocío Molina, the process and result of Dospormedio’s creativity was seen, David Lagos shared the secrets of the recording studio, Estrella Morente knocked on fado’s door and Pepe Habichuela on jazz’s, new fusions were heard, and convention centers, streets, alternative venues and the top theaters were filled to the brim. Flamenco traveled to London, Amsterdam, Nîmes and Mont de Marsan, while Madrid and Barcelona claimed capital status by means of impressive cante. And Seville and Jerez once again turned into hubs of what this artform is today. There’s no doubt about it: 2008 was a great year... for flamenco.
