‘Morente
sueña La Alhambra’,

Sprouting
from the voice of Enrique Morente is a special audiovisual
depiction of La Alhambra, the emblem of Nazari Granada.
The documentary ‘Morente sueña La Alhambra’
(‘Morente dreams up La Alhambra’), directed
by José Sánchez-Montes and produced
by Atico7, has the participation of artists such
as Estrella Morente, guitarists Tomatito and Juan
Habichuela, bailaor Israel Galván... Other
great non-flamenco names also appear like American
guitarist Pat Metheny, German singer Ute Lemper,
Algerian singer Cheb Khaled, dancer Blanca Li...
Another reflection of the cantaor's heterodox work,
captured on the album ‘Morente sueña
La Alhambra’.
The depiction
of the red fort, which has José Luis López
Linares as photography director, goes through the
four seasons. The sensations caused, for example,
by autumn in the woods of the Granada monument are
translated to cante, baile and music by Enrique
Morente, Israel Galván and Pat Metheny. Together,
they perform the songs 'Donde habite el olvido'
('Where Oblivion Lies'), inspired by the poem by
Luis Cernuda; and 'El agua ensimismada' ('Water
Deep in Thought'), by María Zambrano.
Another
key sequence in the film, which is scheduled to
premiere at cinemas in October, is the one Enrique
Morente and Estrella Morente star in at the palace's
Arab baths. Amidst the lights and shadows of the
historic scenario, both perform a love song created
by the cantaor, in which he has inserted verses
by San Juan de la Cruz. Cante with lattices and
starlight.
All
this music and footage are summarized in the words
of the director, José Sánchez-Montes,
on pointing out that “Enrique and La Alhambra
are neither one nor two. They're not an artist and
a monument; they're simply a believable dream”.
