Was it Seville or Milan? The art of re-designing the flamenco dress has once again outdone itself at the International Flamenco Fashion Show SIMOF 2009. Fringed sleeves, puffed sleeves, giant polka dots, patch polka dots, transparencies, vibrant colors, rociera patterns, Turkish dreams, feather ruffles, petal ruffles, stunning necklines, bata de cola, mini-dress, trousers, painted fabrics, flowers, embroideries, sequins, transparencies... A cascade of bursting creativity captured in twelve hundred different models paraded for four days down a glamorous shiny black catwalk made larger than life this year thanks to a giant LED screen. International models such as Laura Sánchez shared space and beauty with jondo artists before a boisterous audience of over forty thousand people. And of course, the soundtrack playing non-stop was high-level flamenco such as that of Arcángel’s cante. By the way, the winner of the Novel Designers Contest was a bailaor; Antonio Serrano.
