Juana Amaya

Juana Amaya

Mimbre

Teatro Villamarta. May 5th.

Farruquito, Angelita Vargas, Juana Amaya, El Mimbre.

Three "arrebatos" (outbursts), one "pizzicato"

Angelita Vargas

Sevillian gala including three explosive bailaores and one, at the end, smooth as silk. The first one to perform was Farruquito with his dance-salamander-tail-like, after whom came the always outstanding Rafael de Utrera, who was not at his prime in the "solea", whereas Segundo Falcon did triumph with his "solea" accompanied by Angelita Vargas and by the usual members of her group. He underlines the gypsy traits of his dance, the same as always, but having as his right hand someone like Angelita Vargas is worth its weight in gold. Both bailaores had in their shows the collaboration of their extensive families, although they had serious problems with their costumes.

Farruquito

The second part began with the idiosyncratic promenade of Manuel Soler, which was "seasoned" with a few notes from the "cajon" (percussion instrument). Juan Jose Amador and Enrique el Extremeño sang "por tonas" at the same time as Juana Amaya, one of the most complete bailaoras who have passed through the festival up to now in feeling, sensitivity, richness of nuances... and energy: one of her hair clips was thrown ten meters away from her during her dancing (which was supported by her guitar player Paco Fernandez, who was the most modern-sounding of the musicians on the night). Her "bulerias", somewhat long so as to not be an exception in this festival so far, were a perfect example of solid dancing, accompanied by one of the best groups of musicians to be found today.

Farruquito

A flute was added, while El Mimbre had a cello sounding during his dancing of a pizzicato. In a relaxed manner. In the cante he had only the company of Curro, the father of the previously mentioned guitar player, and in his recognizable style, extracted, and of "jondo" frugality, El Mimbre spent several minutes on stage without making a sound with his dance shoes. Something to be appreciated, after six days of festival.
