Manolete.
Teatro Villamarta

The "martinetes"
from the beginning of the show "Flamenco soy" (I am flamenco) by Manolete
were very similar to those of his previous "Latidos" (Heartbeats). "Muletillas"
(bullfighting technique) and classicism were the measure of his "farruca" accompanied
by three guitars. The "zapateado", performed in a classy way, although at the
age of 55 his nipple refused to be hidden within his open shirt. The scenery set
up was sober, with all artists dressed in black and with small white spots in
the womens´ dresses. The average age was high in an experienced team of guitar
players and cantaores. The level of the four bailaores "por alegrias", and later
his individual "pataita bulearera", were some of the best dance moments we have
experienced at the Villamarta these days.

After the eight
bailaores of the group had danced in a short "rondeña", Manolete began
in his chair the "solea" which derived in a twosome performed "por alegrias" with
his daughter Judea Maya.
The frame. He looks
for a framed ending, the "ta-ra"... the "alegrias", like the "farruca": lost in
time, one day they were new, configuring his style, a profile of poses of an elegant
gypsy from Granada. Manolete showed all of his solemnity in his final appearance
from within the group, and they exit by making a round showing their best presence,
without music or dancing, but with brains.
