10th of May, 2000. Teatro Villamarta
Ecstasy with Moraito

The most "Jerezian" session of the festival, outstanding, with the tickets sold out weeks ago, had in Antonio el Pipa and Moraito the triumphant artists of the night

Prestige of the highest level. Who can say that Moraito is not the best accompanying guitar player of the moment? He came out on stage at the Villamarta as if he was taking a walk with his guitar in his hand (alone, and its been a long time since he did that in Jerez), and he played a storming and very efficient "seguiriya" to begin with, as well as displaying the hardness of his nails "por solea".

From left to right stood the four greatest "palmeros" (flamenco rhythmic clappers): Gregorio, Rafita, Chicharito and Bo. What faces they presented during the sparkling "bulerias", in which Moraito made a Jerezian version of Moron. With the "tangos" he had a total of nine "palmeros" and two percussionists, as well as his son Diego as a second guitar player, going into another set of swaying "bulerias" with a home accent - that blues curving, that connatural rhythm - which he calls "Vals-bulerias" ("Mercado persa" - Persian market).

When Luis el Zambo came out on stage, there was a table brought out to mark the "compas" (rhythm) of the "solea-bulerias" for him with the knuckles "al golpe" (hitting the table), with that old tavern voice which was delicious to hear: the chemistry of Jerez, the abracadabra flamenco. He performed choral "rumba-tangos" of the "Gitano, Tano", and then he allowed two moments of glory for Paca and Manuela Mendez, two passionate cantaoras (who are already retired, and who come from the family of La Paquera), with coupled "bulerias" which they performed at the front of the stage with the microphone in their hands.

Moraito finished off with instrumental "bulerias" from his "Morao, Morao" and with the central part of "Alahea", under the cheers of the public.
