Poveda and Chicuelo
Breaking with the
flamenco "of a family clan type", Miguel Poveda closed the "Veladas de Palacio"
dedicated to the cante in front of a full house and without amplifiers. The meticulous
cantaor from Badalona was performing in Jerez for the first time in his career.
"Something which is very important in my career as a cantaor - he told the attentive
public -, since from Jerez have come the cantaores who I admire most"; many of
the local artists came to listen to him (among them Moraito, who has made guest
appearances in both his albums, or the singer of Navajita Platea), to him and
also to his guitar player, the unusual and inspired Chicuelo.

Poveda
Nervous? Not at
all: to his fabulous tuning he added the fact of feeling at ease and of leaving
to one side "zambras" and modern singing styles: he sang "mineras", a "malagueña"
culminated with a tremendous "verdial", finely tuned "alegrias", even better pondered
than those of his albums, generous "soleares" with a Chicuelo in a state of grace,
devoted "fandangos", "tientos" and "tangos" with the aid of El Londro and of Luis
Cantarote, whose "palmas" (rhythmic clapping) gave their fruits in a rich variant
of the tremendous rhythm of Jerez "por bulerias": Jerez was no longer his pending
issue.
