Vicente
Soto:
In the evenings of the Palacio de Villacencio.
Two more shows
were held during the first day of the festival. At midnight, Vicente Soto "Sordera"
appeared in an intimate scenario, without a microphone and in front of a crowd
of 80 spectators, at the Palacio de Villavicencio. His profound voice left us
a series of concentrated cantes in which he, as he said "if you don"t sing
"por soleá" and "seguiriya", it seems as if you"re
missing something"; he devoted himself to both of these "palos" (types
of flamenco cante), with an outstanding "seguiriya" by Juanichi el Manijero
and the pure guitar of José María Molero in the "soleá"
as highlights. To finish off he went "por tangos de la Repompa" and
"bulerías al golpe (to the beat)", in which he allowed one of
his nephews to play the "cajón" (percussion instrument), which
clumsily played disturbed the sound equilibrium.
In another place,
past two o"clock at night, Luis el Zambo, Juana la del Pipa and El Mono,
the representatives of the Juncales de Jerez who, along with Diego Morao were
inaugurating the "Trasnoches (late at night)" cycle, were closing their act "por
bulerías" at the warmed up peña La Bulería. The three
cantaores would follow each other up freely, performing a set of their common
lineage with a sweet taste, and giving out sparkles into the heat of the "fiesta"
(party). Because Jerez was truly a great Jerez last Sunday.
