With the premiere of 'Enramblao' as his
strength, Rafael
Amargo makes a stop in Madrid. The Granada-born bailaor will have his summer
season at the Alcázar Theater, beginning on May 26th, 2004. Moreover, he
will put on two other shows from his repertoire: 'Poeta en Nueva York' and 'El
amor brujo'. Afterwards, he will continue his international tour around Japan
and several countries in the Americas.

'Enramblao' is a series of ten choreographies
whose connecting thread is the big city as a multicultural, multiracial, diverse
place. Present in this show are flamenco, contemporary music, song, cinema and
literary texts. The stars are street characters who dance around music that goes
from the purest flamenco (with the premiere of a new soleá by Rafael Amargo,
an original by guitarists Flavio Rodrígues and Camarón de Pitita),
to tunes as well-known as 'Ne me quitte pas' by Jacques Brel and 'De
María a María... con sus dolores' by María Jiménez.
There is also room for sevillanas, hip hop and tap rhythms, and compositions by
Edith Salazar, who authors the score of 'Poeta en Nueva York'. Literary texts
by Mario Benedetti are also included in the show. Juan Estelrich is in charge
of the audiovisual part.

The summer season at the Alcázar Theater
also includes the two other shows the company currently has on tour. On the one
hand, it will stage 'Poeta en Nueva York', awarded the Max Prize of the Performing
Arts for Best Dance Performer and the Best Show in 2002 and of the Decade of 'El
País de las Tentaciones'. According to the daily 'Granada Digital', recently
at the Cervantes Institute headquarters in Cairo (Egypt), it has presented 'Poeta
en Nueva York' on DVD, which will soon be on sale. On the other hand, it will
take back up 'El amor brujo', with two nominations for the 2004 Max Prizes for
Best Male Dance Performer and Best Choreography.
Before landing at the aforementioned Madrilenian
theater, Rafael Amargo has other commitments. On April 29th he is scheduled to
take part in the International Dance Day gala that is to be held in Madrid. A
few days later, he will set off for Japan, where he will put on the show 'Intimo'
from May 9th to 22nd, in cities such as Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto. He will return
to Japan months later with 'Enramblao'. He is also scheduled to perform this season
in Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Brazil, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Mexico and the United
States with 'Poeta en Nueva York'.
