Flamenco dancing makes a place
for itself at L’Altre Espai. In the first quarter
of 2007, on the bill of the stages of the network Teatres
de la Generalitat Valenciana are the shows ‘Cinco
sentidos’ by Córdoba-born bailaor Ángel
Muñoz and ‘Dibujos en el aire’
by Jerez-born bailaora Mercedes
Ruiz. The program, organized by the Choreographic
Center, is alternated with Spanish dance by figures such
as Rubén Olmo and international projects of contemporary
dance.

‘Bailando flamenco’ kicks
things off at L’Altre Espai on March 24th and 25th
with the Ángel Muñoz Company. The Córdoba-born
bailaor presents his show ‘Cinco sentidos’,
which premiered at the tenth edition of Festival de Jerez.
The show sets forth “a sincere dialogue between
the contemporary classicism of his baile, cante and guitar”,
reeling off styles such as the martinete, seguiriya, farruca,
cantiñas and soleá por bulerías.
And to do so, he surrounds himself with artists like bailaora
Charo
Espino, cantaor Miguel Ortega, guitarists Paco Arriaga
and Antonio Españadero, and percussionist Nacho
López.
The program is continued by the local
company Azahar with the show ‘Menos mal que algunas
semanas tienen ocho días’, which will be
on the bill on March 28th and 29th. And the series finishes
with another main attraction of flamenco dancing, ‘Dibujos
en el aire’ by Mercedes Ruiz. On March 31st and
April 1st, the Jerez-born bailaora offers a show which
intertwines styles such as the farruca, seguiriya and
alegrías with a bata de cola, to the sound of music
composed by guitarist Santiago
Lara. The artist has just won the Critics’ Award
at Festival de Jerez 2007 for her new production, ‘Juncá’.
