Flamenco premières can happen anywhere in the world nowadays. Ángel Muñoz, first bailaor in the Compañia de María Pagés, has chosen the South African city of Sttellenbosch to present his new production 'Robándole al alma' (Stealing from the soul). With his own company of eight, comprising dancers, guitarists, vocalists and percussionist, he will be performing from December 8th through 15th 2003 in the southernmost country of the African continent.

It's the third time Ángel Muñoz has danced in South Africa. He's found a following there for his style of flamenco, true to the orthodox frameworks. This time around he's giving them something special: the première of his show 'Robándole al alma'. The production is programmed to run in the city of Sttellenbosch from Monday 8th through Monday 15th December 2003.

'Robándole al alma' is a production with no storyline, a showcase of expression through dance and flamenco music. The show takes in a wide range of styles, including martinetes, jaleos, la farruca, tanguillos and cartageneras. Two numbers stand out in this production. First there are the 'alegrías de Córdoba', a style seldom found these days, which was chosen by Ángel in his quest to "try and bring back to flamenco some things that have been lost along the way." Secondly there is the 'soleá apolá', "dedicated to the great Manuel Soler", the late percussionist and bailaor alongside whom he worked for many years in the Compañía de María Pagés.

The bailaor, who also works as a solo dancer with guitarist Paco Peña, will this time be backed by his own company, consisting of bailaoras Inmaculada Ortega, Charo Espino and Maribel Espino, guitarists Jorge Rodríguez and Manuel Pérez, cantaores Miguel Ortega and José Ángel Carmona, and percussionist Nacho López.
