Anoushka Shankar comes back to flamenco. After her collaborations with pianist Pedro Ricardo Miño on ‘Rise’, the sitar player, daughter of the legendary artist Ravi Shankar, is fully immersed in the dialogue between Indian traditional and flamenco. She is presenting an exclusive preview concert featuring the music from her forthcoming Deutsche Grammophon album ‘Traveller’, produced by Javier Limón, scheduled for release in October, with related tours in Europe this autumn, early 2012 in India, and in the US next spring. The project, which Anoushka calls a “raga flamenco journey”, originated with her wish to retrace the 1000-year-old bond between Indian and Spanish musical traditions. Medici.tv will broadcast the concert live from the 12th Girona Festival of World and Sacred Music on 3 July at 10 pm CET. Anoushka Shankar, on sitar, will be accompanied by Indian and flamenco musicians, including Sandra Carrasco, vocals; Pirashanna Thevarajah, percussion; Ramon Porrina, percussion; Sanjeev Shankar, shehnai; Álvaro Antona, flamenco guitar; Padma Shankar, violin; Shalini Patnaik, Indian classical dancer; and Kenji Ota, tanpura. The special flamenco guests will be Pepe Habichuela on flamenco guitar and Pedro Ricardo Miño on flamenco piano.
