With the mood warming up thanks to the series of free concerts 'Bienal va por barrios', Seville's megafestival gets down to business with a new experiment: 'A Palo Seco'. The series of recitals scheduled to take place between the 21st and the 30th of August, 2002, bringing the cante of artists like Chano Lobato, Fernando Terremoto, Fernando de la Morena and Segundo Falcón to the secluded patios and plazas of the capital's old town, without the aid of amplification.

The Casa Palacio of the Delegación Provincial de Turismo lends itself to the first of the recitals on Wednesday, August 21st with Fernando de la Morena accompanied by Diego de Morao, and Tina Pavón with Niño Elías on the guitar. Espiau built the traditional Sevillian patio, within the heart of a typical regional-style building, at the beginning of the twentieth century, for Seville's influential Medina family.

The following day, a change of scene. The patio of the Conservatorio Superior de Música, a building which has served as convent and Civil Guard headquarters, has prepared its two interior patios for performances by Diego Clavel with Antonio Carrión, and Melchora Ortega with Fernando Moreno. This building, one of the most recently restored landmarks of the municipal project, will again fill with the sounds of cante on August 28th with Segundo Falcón and Paco Jarana accompanying, and Laura Vital with Eduardo Rebollar. On August 23 La Casa del Moro, a government building from the era of the Real Alcázar and currently home of the Fundación Blas Infante, receives recitals by Jesús Heredia accompanied by Manolito Herrera, and David Lagos with El Bolita.

On August 29th the Mudéjar Pavillion of the 1929 Exposición Iberoamericana, now the Museo de Artes Costumbres Populares, will offer its historical architectural design, the work of Aníbal González, to the singer from Cádiz Chano Lobato accompanied on the guitar by Niño Elías, and Curro de Utrera with Calderito.

'A Palo Seco' finishes off on August 30th in the patio of the Fundición Real Casa de la Moneda, home of the organization of Seville's Bienal de Flamenco. Within this urban complex of paramilitary architecture built by the Borbons, Fernando Terremoto with Antonio Higuero on the guitar, and Julián Estrada with Manuel Silveria will leave their echoes.
