Estrella Morente’s voice will be the first one to be heard at the 2012 Bankia Flamenco Festival. The twentieth edition of the Madrilenian festival will have the Granada-born cantaora inaugurating the series of shows at the Teatro Circo Price on February 7th. Until February 11th, the bill will offer “a traditional flamenco program with cante, baile and guitar by outstanding jondo voices”. Standing out amongst them are those of Rancapino, Manuel Moneo, Mariana Cornejo, Arcángel, María Toledo and Juana la del Pipa, among others, as well as the baile performance by Manolete. The festival will devote a night to pay tribute to guitarist Moraíto Chico, who passed away last August, in a show which will include performances by José Mercé, Fernando de la Morena, Juana la del Pipa and La Macanita. In this edition, cantaor Pansequito will receive the 2012 Calle de Alcalá Flamenco Award in a gala that he will illustrate with his live cante. As in previous editions, the recitals are to be complemented with prior activities at La Casa Encendida, from February 1st to 4th, with the participation of flamencologists, journalists and writers expert in the subject offering those attending three round-tables which will be followed by cante recitals with Rancapino Hijo and two guitar recitals with Miguel Ángel Cortés and David Caro. The shows will end with a concert seeking to back new talents, “El flamenco más joven en La Casa Encendida”, starring young cantaor Gabriel de la Tomasa and flamenco guitar in concert by Tomatito’s son.
