Sara
Baras immortalizes her latest show. 'Mariana Pineda' is going to be released
on DVD, with the intention of spreading worldwide and perpetuating the new show
by the Cádiz-born bailaora. The audiovisual, produced by Sony Music, has
the show based on the homonymous work by Federico García Lorca, directed
by Lluís Pasqual and with original music by Manolo Sanlúcar. The
show, premiered at Seville's 2002 Bienal, has already been seen by over one hundred
fifty thousand spectators all over the world.

The DVD was recorded live at Calderón
Theater in Madrid, where the bailaora beat the box office ticket sales and turnover
record for three months, from February to April 2003. As the company explains,
the audiovisual which is now released in a digital format is "recorded with
the best available picture and sound technology; and has, besides the show, extra
material such as interviews with Sara Baras and Lluís Pasqual, the show's
'making off' and photographs".
To date, over one hundred fifty thousand spectators
have seen 'Mariana Pineda' on the international circuit. Standing out is the success
achieved on stages as emblematic as Milán's Piccolo Teatro, Paris' Théâtre
Champs Elysées and New York's City Center.
Stopover in Barcelona
Currently, the company is performing at Barcelona's
Musical Theater, where it presents a dual program: 'Mariana Pineda', from December
18th to 28th, 2003; and 'Sueños' ('Dreams'), from January 1st to 11th,
2004. "This way, two facets of the Cádiz-born dancer and choreographer
will be able to be seen: in 'Mariana Pineda', the combination of baile with the
interpretation of a historical character; and in 'Sueños', a pure flamenco
show... baile for baile itself, with no plot".

Sara Baras receives Spain's 2003 National Dance Prize. The Cádiz-born
bailaora has been awarded the top prize in Spanish dance, granted by the National
Institute of the Performing Arts and Music of the Ministry of Culture, in the
category of interpretation. The panel of judges has given the prize to the dancer
from Cádiz "for the push given to Spanish dance and the leap in quality achieved
with her show 'Mariana Pineda', acclaimed by the public and the critics". The
prize in the category of creation, which was
awarded to María Pagés last year, goes this year to the hands of dancer and
choreographer Nacho Duato. Flamenco bailaores such as Eva Yerbabuena, Antonio
Canales, Antonio Gades and Cristina Hoyos already own this prize.
