Flamenco-world.com, January 2006

Seville's 2006 Bienal de Flamenco has already set its dates. The fourteenth edition of the Sevillian festival will kick off on September 13th and will finish on October 15th, 2006. Although the bill hasn't been closed yet, the organization informs that it will be devoted to baile and will offer nearly thirty different shows. Real Alcázar, Teatro Lope de Vega, Teatro Maestranza, Teatro Alameda, Teatro Central, Auditorio de Sevilla and Hotel Triana are the stages where over fifty scheduled performances will take place.

Though we'll have to wait until late January to get to know the names, it has already been revealed that Real Alcázar will host the inauguration and the Teatro Maestranza the close of this edition. Auditorio de Sevilla will welcome three large-scale shows on the three central Saturdays: September 23rd and 30th, and October 7th. Elsewhere, at the Hotel Triana spectators may attend one of the four scheduled outdoor flamenco events on Friday of each week. The core of the program is to be held at the Teatro Lope de Vega and Isla de la Cartuja's Teatro Central.

Teatro Alameda will continue with the ‘Flamenco para niños’ (‘Flamenco for Children’) series scheduled in matinées arranged with schools in Seville as well as in sessions open to the general public where the young creators will develop their works. These shows are scheduled for two weeks, from September 26th to October 7th.

Bienal de Sevilla 2006 also has a bill of related activities which will be held all over the city from May to September. It includes commemorative publications, concerts, exhibits, academic activities and film showings, among others. As novelties, for the first time ever the Bienal will have a system of international ticket sales. Moreover, it will provide access to videoclips from the audiovisual archives of all the festival's editions at its official website.
