Seville’s Bienal de Flamenco
2010 is now revving up its engines. The program with which
it celebrates its thirtieth anniversary has been revealed
and tickets are now on sale. In its sixteenth edition, the
flamenco macrofestival offers a total of 65 performances
of 55 shows split up between seven stages. All of them are
included in the slogan “Flamenco de viva voz”
(“Flamenco in Person”) and are moreover inserted
into six different cycles by theme, among them, ‘Clásicos
del siglo XXI’, ‘Flamenco y otras aves’
and ‘El flamenco que viene’. The bill is highlighted
by the star of its inauguration, who will be cantaor Miguel
Poveda with a concert at the Plaza de San Francisco,
and that of the close, by maestro Paco
de Lucía. But in the twenty-five days
running from September 15th to October 9th, there will be
many names and shows in the foreground.

The ‘Clásicos del siglo XXI’
Series “is made up of shows proposed
by that generation of artists who, halfway
between two centuries, have created a style
of their own, a new esthetic discourse”.
And that concept includes premieres such as
‘Tranquilo alboroto’ by Rubén
Olmo, ‘Sonerías’ by Farruquito,
‘Sin muros!’ by Dorantes, ‘El
alma encendida’ by Juan Carlos Romero,
‘En la horma de sus zapatos’ by
Isabel Bayón, ‘Vaivenes’
by Javier Barón, a show by Eva
Yerbabuena which is still untitled, ‘150
gramos de pensamientos’ by Rafaela Carrasco,
‘Raíces del alma’ by Esperanza
Fernández, ‘Al compás
de Soler’ by Rafael Campallo and ‘Bailar.
Vivir’ by Fuensanta la Moneta, among
others. The latest works by Rocío Molina,
Andrés Marín and Pastora Galván
are also a part of this series.

Lagos with ‘El espejo en que me
miro’, Antonio Campos with ‘Corral
del Carbón’, David Palomar with
‘La Viña, cantón independiente’,

that of Extremadura; and another for that
