Between biennials, an interval. In the season without a festival, the Dutch Flamenco schedules a new series of shows which it keeps the flamenco flame alive with on stages in Holland like the Bimhuis in Amsterdam, Lantarenvenster in Rotterdam and RASA in Utrecht, spreading to locations in Germany and Luxembourg. Intermezzo Flamenco 2011/2012 kicked off in September with three performances by the group Ultra High Flamenco, with bailaor Pepe Torres as guest artist. The following show is the premiere of ‘¡Tui-to!-That’s it! Flamenco Free Space’, a face-off between Jerez-born bailaor Joaquín Grilo and Bulgarian musician Theodosii Spassov on kaval, which will be seen in December at four Dutch stages and at the Kulturfabrik in Esch, Luxembourg. Between March and April, bailaora Olga Pericet will offer seven performances of ‘Cantes y bailes’, including two at the Tanzhaus in the German city of Düsseldorf. The series will be closed in May by guitarist Diego del Morao, in concert for three nights together with cantaor Jesús Méndez. Also standing out amidst the Biennial’s activities is the presentation of the documentary ‘El cante bueno duele’ (‘Good Cante Hurts’), starring Moraíto, at Womex Copenhagen 2011. Excerpts from this audiovisual will also be shown at the galas in tribute to the recently-deceased guitarist which are scheduled for November 18th in Jerez and on December 14th and 15th at the Teatro Coliseum in Madrid.
