The Ballet Nacional de España (National Ballet of Spain) plunges into Goya’s Black Paintings. José Antonio directs and choreographs the new show by the state company ‘Negro-Goya’, which premieres at the 2011 International Music and Dance Festivals of Granada (July 8th) and Santander (August 5th). As the choreographer explains, the show “tries to highlight the timelessness and validity of his art, developing a tour of his last stage and his tortuous dichotomy between reality and fantasy”. The director specifies that the Aragonese painter “was a chronicler of the social and political ups and downs of his time”. And he emphasizes that “therefore, we take his ‘Duelo a garrotazos’ as the last picture, irrefutable proof of the eternal two Spains”. Among others, the lineup of artists includes Enric Palomar as music composer and co-scriptwriter, Juan Gómez as lighting designer, Sonia Grande as wardrobe designer, Fernando Romero as guest artist and Miguel Ángel Espino as special collaborator. This will be the last creation by José Antonio in his second stage at the helm of the company. Beginning on September 1st, he will be replaced in the position by Antonio Najarro.
