Ballet Nacional de España
premieres once more. With the title ‘Sevilla Madrid
Sevilla’, it presents the new choreographies ‘Cambalache’
by Antonio
Canales; ‘Dualia’ by Ángel Rojas
and Carlos Rodríguez; and ‘Caprichos’
by Fernando Romero and with music by Cañizares.
The new program by the public Spanish company, which is
currently directed by José Antonio, will be on
the bill from March 15th to 25th, 2007 at Madrid’s
Teatro de la Zarzuela.
The new program by the Ballet Nacional
de España (Spanish National Ballet) is three-fold.
The first piece is ‘Cambalache’, choreographed
by Antonio Canales, who also takes part dancing as guest
artist. As the author explains, “it’s a work
which invites us to plunge into luminosity and go deeply
into the crossbreeding of peoples”. To which he
adds, “an exchange of styles, cultures and ancestral
feelings which end up making up what we call flamenco
nowadays”. The music is by Livio Gianola, Antonio
Canales, and Diego Losada.

The second piece, ‘Dualia’,
is the work of Ángel Rojas and Carlos Rodríguez,
founders of the Nuevo Ballet Español, with music
by José Nieto. The aim of this choreography, whose
authors also take part in the dancing, is “to tackle
Spanish dance, breathing the youth and freshness of the
dancers of this generation rich in knowledge, reflecting
ourselves in the colors of Sorolla’s paintings and
seeking the complicity of pair baile”.
And the third is ‘Caprichos’
by Fernando Romero, which has the music and special collaboration
live of guitarist Cañizares and cantaor Juan José
Amador. The piece is defined as “a flamenco dancing
show without a storyline, in which the one and only aim
is to provide a personal, abstract vision of flamenco”.
The three works premiere March 15th to
25th, 2007 at Madrid’s Teatro de la Zarzuela, the
same stage where a year ago the company revived ‘Café
de Chinitas’ with choreography by José Antonio,
music by Chano Domínguez and cante by Esperanza
Fernández. The show recovered the curtains and
wardrobe which Dalí designed for the original version
by La
Argentinita.
