Festival Caja Madrid 2004 puts the
spotlight on cantaores like Estrella Morente,
Chocolate and El Pele

Paco Cepero and El Pipa add the finishing touches in the form of guitar and dance to the Madrid event

Flamenco-world.com, January 2004

Once again, cante is the main attraction at Festival Caja Madrid. The twelfth edition of the event, which runs from February 17th through 21st 2004 at Madrid's Teatro Albéniz, covers the whole range of flamenco voices. From youthful cantaores to veterans; from Jerez to Seville, taking in Córdoba and Barcelona too. The bill features everything from Estrella Morente, who gives the opening recital, to Esperanza Fernández and La Macanita; from Miguel Poveda to Chocolate, pausing for Fernando Terremoto, Segundo Falcón, El Pele, Manuel Moneo and Capullo de Jerez. There are just two concessions to solo guitar and dance, featuring Paco Cepero, who this year receives the Calle de Alcalá award, and Antonio el Pipa, who'll give a golden touch to the festival, surrounded by the female components of his family. During the week before these performances, there'll be a program of parallel activities at Madrid's Casa Encendida, featuring conferences, recitals and debates.
