The Teatro Albéniz having
been closed for good, the Caja Madrid Flamenco Festival
faces its seventeenth edition with a change of location.
From February 26th to 28th, 2009, it proposes three days
of cante at the new Teatros del Canal, by artists such as
Miguel Poveda, La Macanita, El Pele and Marina Heredia,
among others. As the final touch, on March 2nd José
Mercé will be given the Calle de Alcalá Award
on a night when besides the voice of the prizewinning cantaor,
the guitar of Paco Cepero will be heard. The previous week,
at the cultural center La Casa Encendida a program of lectures
and young cante recitals will be held, which opens with
an encounter between flamenco scholars José María
Velázquez-Gaztelu and Ángel Álvarez
Caballero, illustrated with a recital by Encarna Anillo
with Juan Requena.
