The thirty-seventh edition of the Caracolá
Lebrijana has gender. The traditional festival on the lower Guadalquivir to be
celebrated on July 20th, 2002, will honor "women in flamenco". The lineup
of artists brings together important singers such as Carmen Linares, Remedios
Amaya, Inés Bacán and Marina Heredia.
The athletic field of Lebrija's San
Francisco Convent will be the site of the thirty-seventh edition of the Caracolá
Lebrijana with a specific objective in mind: to pay tribute to flamenco's women.
The bulk of the program, which will take place the night of July 20th, 2002, is
made of a variety of different female voices: veteran, young, festive, classic...

The singer from Jaén Carmen Linares,
currently touring with her new record 'Un ramito de locura', is sharing the bill
with the Seville singer Remedios Amaya who is also promoting her new record 'Sonsonete'.
They will be joined by local singer Inés Bacán, sister of the late
guitarist Pedro Bacán; the young Granada singer Marina Heredia and Juana
Vargas. This string of voices will be accompanied on the guitar by Paco Cortés,
Antonio Malena, El Bolita and Eugenio Iglesias. The evening will also include
dancing... by women, with the Seville dancer Carmen Ledesma and María del
Mar Carrasco.
This program contrasts with the diversity
of last year's when the convent grounds was used for the first time and singers
José Mercé, El
Lebrijano, Curro Malena, Miguel Funi and Rocío Segura; guitarists Moraíto
and Enrique de Melchor; and dancers El Junco and Hiniesta Cortés were some
of the artists who performed. The festival managed to attract about three thousand
people for flamenco and the snails which are served.
