Carmen
Linares once again delves into poetry. Following the
album ‘Raíces y alas’ in tribute to Juan
Ramón Jiménez, the Jaén-born cantaora
sets her sights on Miguel Hernández. And with poems
by the Alicante-born writer, she shapes up a new show entitled
‘Oasis abierto’. It premieres at the Teatro
Principal in Alicante on January 13th, thus kicking off
a tour whose second date will be February 10th at the Caja
Madrid Flamenco Festival. The lineup, led by the
cantaora as music director and author of the music together
with Luis Pastor, includes Emilio Hernández as stage
director, Tomasito
as bailaor and cantaor, Salvador Gutiérrez on guitar,
Tino di Geraldo on percussion and Pablo Suárez on
piano. The show, which musically feeds on deep-roots flamenco,
folk and contemporary music, “reflects the liveliest
side of Hernández’s poetry, and to do so, we’ve
created a dynamic, coloristic show full of nuances, without
giving up the commitment to a poet who always kept up an
ethical position before the circumstances of his era”,
Linares explains. Moreover, the repertoire contains the
piece ‘Mis ojos sin tus ojos’ (see
online video), dedicated to Enrique Morente, the cantaor
who in 1971, when the poet was still banned by Franco’s
dictatorship, recorded the tribute album ‘Homenaje
flamenco a Miguel Hernández’.
