'Furia Maya' and 'Suena Flamenco' are the
titles bailaor Juan Andrés Maya and female trio Suroma chose to
present their flamenco dance offerings. The two audiovisual editions - available
in both DVD and VHS format - are the latest in a string of releases under the
banner 'Noches en Casa Patas', named after the Madrid venue. The collection, which
was launched with the release of 'Puro Gayardó', is a showcase on young
flamenco dance talent adapted to the small stage.

Juan Andrés Maya
On 'Furia Maya', Juan Andrés Maya offers
half a dozen pieces, dancing to a live vocal and guitar performance. From martinetes
to alegrías, without forgetting the soleá and bulerías,
the dancer from Granada shares the floor with bailaores Pepa Carrasco and
Iván Vargas, and demonstrates his distinctive style, a family legacy in
part but with his own personality boldly shining through. The formation which
accompanies the artist, who brought us productions such as 'Homenaje a Carmen
Amaya' and 'El flamenco de un marginado', is made up of cantaores Jhony
Cortés and Leo Triviño; guitarists Camarón de Pitita and
Basilio García; violinist David Moreira; and on cajón Antonio
Jiménez Maya.
Suroma comprises a trio of bailaoras who left
the Antonio
Canales Company to set up their own group. Their recital, 'Suena Flamenco',
centers around four styles: martinetes, tangos, rondeñas and bulerías.
Added to these is a creative number entitled 'Conversaciones flamencas', in which
Susi Parra, Rosana Romero and Mara Martínez play with bastón
(cane), shawl and traditional bata de cola dress while dancing in time
to to bulerías, soleá por bulerías and seguiriyas.
They're accompanied by El Ciervo and Jhony Cortés on vocals; Pino Losada
and Basilio García al toque; David Moreira on violin; and El Negro,
on cajón.
A total of three titles are currently offered
in the 'Noches en Casa Patas' audiovisual baile flamenco collection. The
series was launched with the release of 'Puro Gayardó', featuring young
artists Mari Paz Lucena and Miguel Téllez. The tablao madrileño
Casa Patas, together with production company RGB Arte Visual, are already preparing
new additions to the collection, thus continuing to offer flamenco lovers and
professionals all over the world a chance to enjoy modern flamenco performed live.
