Marco Vargas and Chloé Brûlé knock their dialogue up another notch. The Sevillian bailaor and the Canadian dancer premiere ‘Tripolar’, a project in which they reflect on the individual’s interior. And to do so, they rely on cantaor Juan José Amador as a star figure. The show is to premiere on February 18th and 19th, 2011 at Seville’s Teatro Central in the setting of the new contemporary dance series of Flamenco Viene del Sur. Afterwards, the company will be at the Tanzhaus Festival in Düsseldorf on April 23rd and 24th.

‘Tripolar’, the new production by the duo consisting of Marco Vargas and Chloé Brûlé, stars Juan José Amador. Besides recorded music, his cante will be heard live, but also his guitar for the first time, through a huge variety of styles, from rumbas to soleá, with bulerías, fandangos and tientos in between. In Brûlé’s words, “this man’s identity has been marked by his experiences around flamenco, being a cantaor”. The bailaores are the “operators of his mind, manipulators and, at times, his alter ego. We’re a part of him, a bipolar projection of his being”, she explains.

With the baile understood as dance and flamenco as a way of expressing their narrative concerns, the Sevillian bailaor and the Canadian dancer have been running their company since 2005. Since then, they have put together shows like ‘Cuando uno quiere y el otro no’ (which is to be displayed on February 5th in the Cajasol Dance Series 2011 at the Sala Joaquín Turina in Seville), ‘Las 24’, ‘Ti-me-ta-ble’ and ‘¿Hacia dónde’?, not only performed on the flamenco circuit, but also on the theater and contemporary dance circuits.
