For an entire night, Córdoba
will remain awake. Flamenco will flood its streets and squares
on June 20th, 2009. The second edition of the White Night
of Flamenco will have six hundred artists performing at
forty different venues in the city until dawn. Cantaores
El Lebrijano (with the Orquesta Andalusí and Faiçal
Kourrich), José Mercé and Arcángel
are the artists heading up this unusual lineup.

The program of Córdoba’s White
Night of Flamenco 2009 has three focal points: large-scale
concerts, shows in neighborhoods and shows in the old quarter.
The greatest-scale shows are those which will star Juan
Peña ‘El
Lebrijano’ with Faiçal Kourrich and the
Orquesta Andalusí at the Plaza de las Tendillas,
the concert by José Mercé at the Plaza de
la Corredera and Arcángel at the Patio de los Naranjos.
Halfway between flamenco, pop and rock
are the concerts by singer Rosario Flores and the group
Mediana Azahara at Avenida de la República Argentina.
Moreover, the Teatro de la Axerquía will host the
premiere of the flamenco dancing show ‘Cálida
hondura’, with artistic director Daniel Navarro, choreography
by Javier Latorre and music by Vicente
Amigo and José Manuel Hierro.
The locations in corners of the old quarter
and other neighborhoods will be occupied by Córdoba-born
artists. Proposals stand out such as the musical-visual
show ‘Taurojondo’ at the Plaza del Conde de
Priego, the concert with drums and bugles ‘Pasión’
at Cuesta del Bailío, the tribute to Córdoba’s
National Contest of Flamenco Art entitled ‘Puro y
jondo’ at La Posada del Potro, the performance ‘Jondura’
at the Julio Romero de Torres Museum, and the tribute to
artists Dora la Cordobesita, María la Talegona, María
la Bolera, Pepita Morales and Ana la Tomata at the Plaza
de la Compañía. In addition to the live shows,
there are parallel activities related to contemporary art
and to the children’s audience, as well as an act
with flamenco fashion designer Juana Martín.
