During the month of July, Córdoba
becomes the “guitar city”. And not only for
enjoying good performers live, but also to learn to play.
The core of the course program is ‘Nature and Form
of Flamenco Guitar’, designed and directed by Manolo
Sanlúcar. Together with the Cádiz-born
maestro, collaborating are guitarists José Antonio
Rodríguez, Manolo Franco and Paco Serrano, in this
“intensive (course) combining technique, accompaniment
and harmony”. Assistant teachers Sara Jiménez
on cante and Luisa Serrano on baile join the faculty of
this educational program for all levels. It is to be held
from July 4th to 12th, 2005, with a duration of thirty-six
hours.
This year's novelty is the mixed baile
and guitar for accompaniment course, with fifteen hours
of class per subject. The baile instructor will be Javier
Latorre, while guitar for accompaniment will be taken
care of by Ricardo Rivera. The course, which will take place
from July 11th to 15th, will have the support of bailaora
Belén Mora and cantaor David Palomar.

There is also room for female baile. From
July 4th to 8th, 2005, Inmaculada Aguilar will teach the
course ‘Baile through seguiriyas with a bata de
cola’. With fifteen hours of class, the Córdoba-born
bailaora will be assisted by teachers Manolo Flores on guitar
and Sara Jiménez on cante. Nor will the festival's
didactic program forget cante, with the course ‘Vocal
technique of cante flamenco’, which will be taught
by Calixto
Sánchez from July 4th to 7th. The Sevillian cantaor
will have Chaparro Jr. on guitar.
Besides flamenco, the training area of
the Córdoba Guitar Festival offers a varied program
focusing on different types of guitar. Costas Cotsiolis,
Manuel Barrueco and Leo Brouwer, among others, will teach
classical guitar courses. Moreover, there will be classes
on composition, jazz guitar, midi guitar and a song workshop
with singer-songwriter Amancio Prada.
