The recently-premiered concert
for guitar and orchestra ‘Música para ocho
monumentos’ by Manolo
Sanlúcar will be the starting point of the 2009
Córdoba Guitar Festival. The Cádiz-born maestro
will be joined on the bill by other tocaores such as Niño
de Pura and Manolo Franco together in ‘Compadres’
and Tomatito side by side with cantaor Diego el Cigala.
But despite the title, there is much more flamenco than
just what arises from the six strings. The bill has room
for everything from the show ‘Tribute to Mario Maya’
directed by Belén Maya to the new ‘Coplas del
querer’ by Miguel Poveda, with ‘Aocaná’
by Ojos de Brujo, ‘Fedra’ with choreography
by Javier Latorre and the remake of ‘Omega’
by Enrique Morente and Lagartija Nick in between. Of course,
the program also attends to music from other cultures like
Rabih Abou-Khalil and Al di Meola. Moreover, the flamenco
course staff is reinforced with Eva Yerbabuena as a maestra.
